Technical Info: Wastewater Treatment
Industrial, municipal and manufacturing facilities can contain heavy metals in their wastewater, causing an impact on downstream processes, water reuse and the surrounding environment. Metal-contaminated wastewater and process water needs to be treated before discharge as mandated by the EPA. The EPA issued effluent guidelines for industrial and commercial sites due to the myriad of potential health and environmental considerations.
LANDFILL LEACHATE
Landfill leachate poses a threat to surface water and groundwater if not properly managed at MSW facilities. The composition of leachate usually contains both dissolved metals and suspended solids that need to be captured before seeping into the groundwater.
SOIL REMEDIATION
Soil remediation is required to manage the accumulation of heavy metals at recycling, mining operations, manufacturing and other facilities and to maintain environmental compliance. Soil can be contaminated with heavy metals from sewage sludge, fertilizers, pesticides and plenty of other sources.
VALUABLE METALS RECOVERY
For mining operations, recovery of valuable metals from mine tailings yields less waste and potentially, additional profits. There are also the added benefits of improved water quality and a more environmentally responsible site.
CleanWay offers a waste and process water filtration solution that works for basically any water that contains metals. We’ll help you achieve compliance with state and federal regulations with a cost effective, efficient solution.
CHECK OUT METALZORB
MetalZorb® is a high capacity sponge media that captures and holds accumulated dissolved heavy metals from being released to downstream waterways. MetalZorb efficiently removes, reduces and/or recovers particulate heavy metals including lead, zinc, copper, chromium, iron, mercury, nickel and more.
One of the most important features of MetalZorb is that it does not require a backwash. This alleviates the problems associated with disposal of dirty backwash water or regenerant chemicals.
In a small footprint, this highly effective media absorbs heavy metals with:
No backwash required
High flow rate
Lightweight media
High capacity
Fast absorption
HOW METALZORB WORKS
MetalZorb sponge cubes, available by the cubic foot, can fill a filter vessel or filtration insert, sized for the flow volume at each location. When confined in a filtration insert, they offer little impedance to water flowing through the unit and are not clogged by suspended solids. Sponge media can be compacted into Absorption Booms, as standalone treatment or in a treatment train. Effective ground water remediation can also be achieved by vertically positioning Absorption Booms filled with MetalZorb at the gate of a barrier wall funnel system.
To ensure ongoing efficacy, MetalZorb sponge product should be periodically retrieved and replaced with fresh sponge. Learn more about disposal considerations.
